Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ipv6: Fix out-of-bound access in fib6_add_rt2node(). syzbot reported out-of-bound read in fib6_add_rt2node(). [0] When IPv6 route is created with RTA_NH_ID, struct fib6_info does not have the trailing struct fib6_nh. The cited commit started to check !iter->fib6_nh->fib_nh_gw_family to ensure that rt6_qualify_for_ecmp() will return false for iter. If iter->nh is not NULL, rt6_qualify_for_ecmp() returns false anyway. Let's check iter->nh before reading iter->fib6_nh and avoid OOB read. "value": "AV:L - The bug is reached only via RTNETLINK (`inet6_rtm_newroute` \u2192 `ip6_route_add` \u2192 `fib6_add_rt2node`) through a local `sendmsg` on a netlink socket, not from processing remote IPv6 packets.\nAC:L - syzbot reproduced this reliably with crafted `RTM_NEWROUTE` messages; an attacker can create the required `RTA_NH_ID` routes and duplicate-nexthop state in their own network namespace without depending on victim timing or layout.\nPR:L - `rtnetlink_rcv_msg()` requires `CAP_NET_ADMIN` for `RTM_NEWROUTE`, which unprivileged users can hold inside a user+network namespace (`unshare -Urn`), not only real init-namespace root.\nUI:N - Exploitation is fully attacker-driven through netlink route configuration and does not require any action by another user or administrator.\nS:U - Impact stays within the kernel/network namespace of the attacker; it does not cross a VM, container runtime, or hardware security boundary on its own.\nC:H - The flaw is a slab out-of-bounds read of `fib_nh_gw_family` past the end of a `fib6_info` allocated without the trailing `fib6_nh`, exposing adjacent heap/redzone bytes that can include kernel pointers.\nI:H - The out-of-bounds byte read controls whether `RTF_ADDRCONF`/`RTF_PREFIX_RT` are cleared on an existing route, enabling attacker-influenced routing-table corruption and the same `fib6_add_rt2node()` family of integrity failures seen in related ECMP bugs.\nA:H - The bug triggers a KASAN slab-out-of-bounds fault and can corrupt IPv6 FIB state in ways that lead to further kernel failures (including `BUG_ON` in this function on related misconfigured ECMP paths)."
