Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: RDMA/rxe: Fix null deref on srq->rq.queue after resize failure A NULL pointer dereference can occur in rxe_srq_chk_attr() when ibv_modify_srq() is invoked twice in succession under certain error conditions. The first call may fail in rxe_queue_resize(), which leads rxe_srq_from_attr() to set srq->rq.queue = NULL. The second call then triggers a crash (null deref) when accessing srq->rq.queue->buf->index_mask. Network traffic can exercise the damaged queue concurrently, but a remote peer cannot perform the required resize.\nAC:L - The attacker can deliberately fail resizing using an invalid mmap-info destination or controlled queue occupancy, then issue another modification. Any use-after-free race involves attacker-controlled concurrent uverbs calls or traffic.\nPR:L - An unprivileged user can open the mode-0666 uverbs device, create a context, PD, and SRQ, and invoke modify without capability checks. Object lookup requires ownership of the SRQ but no administrative privilege.\nUI:N - Exploitation requires no action by another user; the attacker creates and modifies the affected SRQ directly.\nS:U - The vulnerable RXE code and the affected kernel resources share the same security authority. Kernel compromise or privilege escalation does not inherently cross a CVSS scope boundary.\nC:H - The failure path frees a still-live queue, and shared uobject lookup permits concurrent modify operations to retain and use that freed queue. Heap reclamation can turn this use-after-free and associated double release into kernel-memory disclosure primitives.\nI:H - A concurrent resize can reach resize_finish() with the freed queue, where swap() writes a complete queue header into freed or reallocated slab memory and cleanup can release stale resources again. This provides defensible kernel heap corruption and potential control-flow hijacking.\nA:H - A sequential second modification deterministically dereferences the NULL queue and causes a kernel oops or panic. Concurrent use-after-free paths can likewise crash the system and are repeatable by the attacker."

Network traffic can exercise the damaged queue concurrently, but a remote peer cannot perform the required resize.\\nAC:L - The attacker can deliberately fail resizing using an invalid mmap-info destination or controlled queue occupancy, then issue another modification. Any use-after-free race involves attacker-controlled concurrent uverbs calls or traffic.\\nPR:L - An unprivileged user can open the mode-0666 uverbs device, create a context, PD, and SRQ, and invoke modify without capability checks. Object lookup requires ownership of the SRQ but no administrative privilege.\\nUI:N - Exploitation requires no action by another user; the attacker creates and modifies the affected SRQ directly.\\nS:U - The vulnerable RXE code and the affected kernel resources share the same security authority. Kernel compromise or privilege escalation does not inherently cross a CVSS scope boundary.\\nC:H - The failure path frees a still-live queue, and shared uobject lookup permits concurrent modify operations to retain and use that freed queue. Heap reclamation can turn this use-after-free and associated double release into kernel-memory disclosure primitives.\\nI:H - A concurrent resize can reach resize_finish() with the freed queue, where swap() writes a complete queue header into freed or reallocated slab memory and cleanup can release stale resources again. This provides defensible kernel heap corruption and potential control-flow hijacking.\\nA:H - A sequential second modification deterministically dereferences the NULL queue and causes a kernel oops or panic. Concurrent use-after-free paths can likewise crash the system and are repeatable by the attacker.\"}]}], \"affected\": [{\"repo\": \"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git\", \"vendor\": \"Linux\", \"product\": \"Linux\", \"versions\": [{\"status\": \"affected\", \"version\": \"8700e3e7c4857d28ebaa824509934556da0b3e76\", \"lessThan\": \"58aca869babd48cb9c3d6ee9e1452c4b9f5266a6\", \"versionType\": \"git\"}, {\"status\": \"affected\", \"version\": \"8700e3e7c4857d28ebaa824509934556da0b3e76\", \"lessThan\": \"b8f6eeb87a76b6fb1f6381b0b2894568e1b784f7\", \"versionType\": \"git\"}, {\"status\": \"affected\", \"version\": \"8700e3e7c4857d28ebaa824509934556da0b3e76\", \"lessThan\": \"5dbeb421e137824aa9bd8358bdfc926a3965fc0d\", \"versionType\": \"git\"}, {\"status\": \"affected\", \"version\": \"8700e3e7c4857d28ebaa824509934556da0b3e76\", \"lessThan\": \"bc4c14a3863cc0e03698caec9a0cdabd779776ee\", \"versionType\": \"git\"}, {\"status\": \"affected\", \"version\": \"8700e3e7c4857d28ebaa824509934556da0b3e76\", \"lessThan\": \"503a5e4690ae14c18570141bc0dcf7501a8419b0\", \"versionType\": \"git\"}], \"programFiles\": [\"drivers/infiniband/sw/rxe/rxe_srq.c\"], \"defaultStatus\": \"unaffected\"}, {\"repo\": \"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git\", \"vendor\": \"Linux\", \"product\": \"Linux\", \"versions\": [{\"status\": \"affected\", \"version\": \"4.8\"}, {\"status\": \"unaffected\", \"version\": \"0\", \"lessThan\": \"4.8\", \"versionType\": \"semver\"}, {\"status\": \"unaffected\", \"version\": \"6.6.120\", \"versionType\": \"semver\", \"lessThanOrEqual\": \"6.6.*\"}, {\"status\": \"unaffected\", \"version\": \"6.12.63\", \"versionType\": \"semver\", \"lessThanOrEqual\": \"6.12.*\"}, {\"status\": \"unaffected\", \"version\": \"6.17.13\", \"versionType\": \"semver\", \"lessThanOrEqual\": \"6.17.*\"}, {\"status\": \"unaffected\", \"version\": \"6.18.2\", \"versionType\": \"semver\", \"lessThanOrEqual\": \"6.18.*\"}, {\"status\": \"unaffected\", \"version\": \"6.19\", \"versionType\": \"original_commit_for_fix\", \"lessThanOrEqual\": \"*\"}], \"programFiles\": [\"drivers/infiniband/sw/rxe/rxe_srq.c\"], \"defaultStatus\": \"affected\"}], \"references\": [{\"url\": \"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/58aca869babd48cb9c3d6ee9e1452c4b9f5266a6\"}, {\"url\": \"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/b8f6eeb87a76b6fb1f6381b0b2894568e1b784f7\"}, {\"url\": \"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/5dbeb421e137824aa9bd8358bdfc926a3965fc0d\"}, {\"url\": \"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/bc4c14a3863cc0e03698caec9a0cdabd779776ee\"}, {\"url\": \"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/503a5e4690ae14c18570141bc0dcf7501a8419b0\"}], \"x_generator\": {\"engine\": \"bippy-1.2.0\"}, \"descriptions\": [{\"lang\": \"en\", \"value\": \"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\\n\\nRDMA/rxe: Fix null deref on srq-\u003erq.queue after resize failure\\n\\nA NULL pointer dereference can occur in rxe_srq_chk_attr() when\\nibv_modify_srq() is invoked twice in succession under certain error\\nconditions.
