CWE
  • CWE-706 - Use of Incorrectly-Resolved Name or Reference
Summary
Vyper 0.4.0b1 through 0.5.0b1 miscompiles unfoldable constants and omitted default arguments from imported modules, because parse_Name resolves their names in the using function's scope rather than at declaration. When a contract's parameter, local, or loop variable shares such a name, attacker-influenced input can replace the intended value, including out-of-range values for narrow types such as uint8, corrupting validation or accounting logic.

CWE
  • CWE-681 - Incorrect Conversion between Numeric Types
Summary
Vyper 0.3.4 through 0.5.0b1 computes the remaining blueprint size in create_from_blueprint by uint256 subtraction without first checking that code_offset is below the blueprint's code size, so a huge offset wraps to a small positive value. An attacker controlling code_offset can make a factory deploy contracts with no runtime code, potentially trapping ETH and tokens.

CWE
Summary
Vyper 0.3.8 through 0.5.0b1 contains an optimizer miscompilation in which (msg.value | K) or (len(msg.data) | K), where K is any nonzero integer literal, is compiled to the constant 1 when used as a ternary expression branch under -O gas (the default) or -O codesize. Affected contracts use the wrong value in storage writes, arithmetic, indexes, return values, or events without warning or revert, which can record deposits incorrectly and lock funds.

CVE-2026-114116 (GCVE-0-2026-114116)
Vulnerability from cvelistv5
Published
2026-10-21 00:37
Modified
2026-10-28 13:48
CWE
  • CWE-436 - Interpretation Conflict
Summary
Vyper 0.1.0b1 before 0.1.0b17 and 0.4.1 through 0.5.0b1 builds its source-line table with str.splitlines(), which treats characters like form feed and U+2028 as line breaks the Python parser ignores, so numeric literals are classified and validated from shifted source text. An attacker contributing source code can hide these characters in comments, strings or indentation to silently change address, integer or decimal constants.

  • CWE-843 - Access of Resource Using Incompatible Type ('Type Confusion')
Summary
Vyper 0.3.8 through 0.5.0b1 contains a compiler miscompilation vulnerability in parse_IfExp that reads nested arrays with narrower inner bounds using the wider result type's memory layout. When a ternary selects the narrower array, inner arrays after the first are read at wrong offsets, causing contracts to silently store corrupted values or revert.

CWE
  • CWE-176 - Improper Handling of Unicode Encoding
Summary
Vyper 0.1.0b1 before 0.1.0b12, 0.1.0b14, and 0.4.1 through 0.5.0b1 mix character-based line offsets with Python's UTF-8 byte col_offset values in vyper/ast/parse.py, so multi-byte characters shift the source slices used to reconstruct later numeric literals. An attacker contributing source with non-ASCII identifiers that NFKC-normalize to ASCII, or an invisible byte-order mark, can silently substitute addresses, integers or other constants in compiled code.

CVE-2021-48019 (GCVE-0-2021-48019)
Vulnerability from cvelistv5
Published
2026-10-21 00:36
Modified
2026-10-27 21:35
CWE
  • CWE-805 - Buffer Access with Incorrect Length Value
Summary
Vyper before 0.2.9 deploys forwarder proxies through the built-in create_forwarder_to function that report a fixed 4096-byte RETURNDATASIZE rather than the actual return data size. Calls through these proxies can yield corrupted data when a function returns more than 4096 bytes without return data sanitation, and fail strict return-size checks such as SafeERC20.safeTransfer.

Summary
Vyper from 0.2.13 before 0.2.15 allocates storage slots for @nonreentrant reentrancy locks at the same locations as contract storage variables. When a function using @nonreentrant is called, setting the lock overwrites the overlapping storage variable, corrupting contract state and breaking the contract's intended logic.

CWE
  • CWE-20 - Improper Input Validation
Summary
Vyper before 0.3.1 lacks a uint8 type, allowing interface return values declared as uint8, such as ERC20.decimals(), to be stored in uint256 variables without bounds checking. Malicious contracts can return values greater than 255 to manipulate or bypass contract logic that relies on these values.

CWE
  • CWE-670 - Always-Incorrect Control Flow Implementation
Summary
Vyper from 0.1.0b10 before 0.2.3 generates incorrect code for a return statement inside a for loop in an internal function called two or more internal calls deep, producing an invalid jump destination (stack underflow). Affected contracts revert such calls unnecessarily, which in limited circumstances could enable denial of service against public contracts.

CVE-2025-47774 (GCVE-0-2025-47774)

CWE
  • CWE-691 - Insufficient Control Flow Management
Summary
Vyper is the Pythonic Programming Language for the Ethereum Virtual Machine. In versions up to and including 0.4.2rc1, the `slice()` builtin can elide side effects when the output length is 0, and the source bytestring is a builtin (`msg.data` or `<address>.code`). The reason is that for these source locations, the check that `length >= 1` is skipped. The result is that a 0-length bytestring constructed with slice can be passed to `make_byte_array_copier`, which elides evaluation of its source argument when the max length is 0. The impact is that side effects in the `start` argument may be elided when the `length` argument is 0, e.g. `slice(msg.data, self.do_side_effect(), 0)`. The fix in pull request 4645 disallows any invocation of `slice()` with length 0, including for the ad hoc locations discussed in this advisory. The fix is expected to be part of version 0.4.2.

  • CWE-691 - Insufficient Control Flow Management
Summary
Vyper is the Pythonic Programming Language for the Ethereum Virtual Machine. In versions up to and including 0.4.2rc1, `concat()` may skip evaluation of side effects when the length of an argument is zero. This is due to a fastpath in the implementation which skips evaluation of argument expressions when their length is zero. In practice, it would be very unusual in user code to construct zero-length bytestrings using an expression with side-effects, since zero-length bytestrings are typically constructed with the empty literal `b""`; the only way to construct an empty bytestring which has side effects would be with the ternary operator introduced in v0.3.8, e.g. `b"" if self.do_some_side_effect() else b""`. The fix is available in pull request 4644 and expected to be part of the 0.4.2 release. As a workaround, don't have side effects in expressions which construct zero-length bytestrings.

In versions up to and including 0.4.2rc1, `concat()` may skip evaluation of side effects when the length of an argument is zero. This is due to a fastpath in the implementation which skips evaluation of argument expressions when their length is zero. In practice, it would be very unusual in user code to construct zero-length bytestrings using an expression with side-effects, since zero-length bytestrings are typically constructed with the empty literal `b\"\"`; the only way to construct an empty bytestring which has side effects would be with the ternary operator introduced in v0.3.8, e.g. `b\"\" if self.do_some_side_effect() else b\"\"`. The fix is available in pull request 4644 and expected to be part of the 0.4.2 release. As a workaround, don\u0027t have side effects in expressions which construct zero-length bytestrings."

Summary
vyper is a Pythonic Smart Contract Language for the EVM. Vyper `sqrt()` builtin uses the babylonian method to calculate square roots of decimals. Unfortunately, improper handling of the oscillating final states may lead to sqrt incorrectly returning rounded up results. This issue is being addressed and a fix is expected in version 0.4.1. Users are advised to upgrade as soon as the patched release is available. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.

Summary
vyper is a Pythonic Smart Contract Language for the EVM. Multiple evaluation of a single expression is possible in the iterator target of a for loop. While the iterator expression cannot produce multiple writes, it can consume side effects produced in the loop body (e.g. read a storage variable updated in the loop body) and thus lead to unexpected program behavior. Specifically, reads in iterators which contain an ifexp (e.g. `for s: uint256 in ([read(), read()] if True else [])`) may interleave reads with writes in the loop body. Vyper for loops allow two kinds of iterator targets, namely the `range()` builtin and an iterable type, like SArray and DArray. During codegen, iterable lists are required to not produce any side-effects (in the following code, `range_scope` forces `iter_list` to be parsed in a constant context, which is checked against `is_constant`). However, this does not prevent the iterator from consuming side effects provided by the body of the loop. For SArrays on the other hand, `iter_list` is instantiated in the body of a `repeat` ir, so it can be evaluated several times. This issue is being addressed and is expected to be available in version 0.4.1. Users are advised to upgrade as soon as the patched release is available. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.

Summary
vyper is a Pythonic Smart Contract Language for the EVM. Vyper handles AugAssign statements by first caching the target location to avoid double evaluation. However, in the case when target is an access to a DynArray and the rhs modifies the array, the cached target will evaluate first, and the bounds check will not be re-evaluated during the write portion of the statement. This issue has been addressed in version 0.4.1 and all users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.

CWE
  • CWE-670 - Always-Incorrect Control Flow Implementation
Summary
Vyper is a Pythonic Smart Contract Language for the EVM. When the Vyper Compiler uses the precompiles EcRecover (0x1) and Identity (0x4), the success flag of the call is not checked. As a consequence an attacker can provide a specific amount of gas to make these calls fail but let the overall execution continue. Then the execution result can be incorrect. Based on EVM's rules, after the failed precompile the remaining code has only 1/64 of the pre-call-gas left (as 63/64 were forwarded and spent). Hence, only fairly simple executions can follow the failed precompile calls. Therefore, we found no significantly impacted real-world contracts. None the less an advisory has been made out of an abundance of caution. This issue is fixed in 0.4.1.

CWE
  • CWE-95 - Improper Neutralization of Directives in Dynamically Evaluated Code ('Eval Injection')
Summary
Vyper is a pythonic Smart Contract Language for the Ethereum virtual machine. In versions 0.3.10 and prior, using the `sqrt` builtin can result in double eval vulnerability when the argument has side-effects. It can be seen that the `build_IR` function of the `sqrt` builtin doesn't cache the argument to the stack. As such, it can be evaluated multiple times (instead of retrieving the value from the stack). No vulnerable production contracts were found. Additionally, double evaluation of side-effects should be easily discoverable in client tests. As such, the impact is low. As of time of publication, no fixed versions are available.

Summary
Vyper is a pythonic Smart Contract Language for the Ethereum virtual machine. Prior to version 0.3.0, default functions don't respect nonreentrancy keys and the lock isn't emitted. No vulnerable production contracts were found. Additionally, using a lock on a `default` function is a very sparsely used pattern. As such, the impact is low. Version 0.3.0 contains a patch for the issue.

CWE
  • CWE-95 - Improper Neutralization of Directives in Dynamically Evaluated Code ('Eval Injection')
Summary
Vyper is a pythonic Smart Contract Language for the Ethereum virtual machine. In versions 0.3.10 and prior, using the `create_from_blueprint` builtin can result in a double eval vulnerability when `raw_args=True` and the `args` argument has side-effects. It can be seen that the `_build_create_IR` function of the `create_from_blueprint` builtin doesn't cache the mentioned `args` argument to the stack. As such, it can be evaluated multiple times (instead of retrieving the value from the stack). No vulnerable production contracts were found. Additionally, double evaluation of side-effects should be easily discoverable in client tests. As such, the impact is low. As of time of publication, no fixed versions exist.

CWE
  • CWE-20 - Improper Input Validation
Summary
Vyper is a pythonic Smart Contract Language for the Ethereum virtual machine. In versions 0.3.10 and prior, using the `slice` builtin can result in a double eval vulnerability when the buffer argument is either `msg.data`, `self.code` or `<address>.code` and either the `start` or `length` arguments have side-effects. It can be easily triggered only with the versions `<0.3.4` as `0.3.4` introduced the unique symbol fence.

In versions 0.3.10 and prior, incorrect values can be logged when `raw_log` builtin is called with memory or storage arguments to be used as topics. A contract search was performed and no vulnerable contracts were found in production. The `build_IR` function of the `RawLog` class fails to properly unwrap the variables provided as topics. Consequently, incorrect values are logged as topics. As of time of publication, no fixed version is available.

CWE
  • CWE-681 - Incorrect Conversion between Numeric Types
Summary
Vyper is a pythonic Smart Contract Language for the Ethereum virtual machine. Starting in version 0.3.8 and prior to version 0.4.0b1, when looping over a `range` of the form `range(start, start + N)`, if `start` is negative, the execution will always revert. This issue is caused by an incorrect assertion inserted by the code generation of the range `stmt.parse_For_range()`. The issue arises when `start` is signed, instead of using `sle`, `le` is used and `start` is interpreted as an unsigned integer for the comparison. If it is a negative number, its 255th bit is set to `1` and is hence interpreted as a very large unsigned integer making the assertion always fail. Any contract having a `range(start, start + N)` where `start` is a signed integer with the possibility for `start` to be negative is affected. If a call goes through the loop while supplying a negative `start` the execution will revert. Version 0.4.0b1 fixes the issue.

CWE
  • CWE-119 - Improper Restriction of Operations within the Bounds of a Memory Buffer
Summary
Vyper is a pythonic Smart Contract Language for the ethereum virtual machine. If an excessively large value is specified as the starting index for an array in `_abi_decode`, it can cause the read position to overflow. This results in the decoding of values outside the intended array bounds, potentially leading to exploitations in contracts that use arrays within `_abi_decode`. This vulnerability affects 0.3.10 and earlier versions.

  • CWE-129 - Improper Validation of Array Index
Summary
Vyper is a Pythonic Smart Contract Language for the Ethereum Virtual Machine. Arrays can be keyed by a signed integer, while they are defined for unsigned integers only. The typechecker doesn't throw when spotting the usage of an `int` as an index for an array. The typechecker allows the usage of signed integers to be used as indexes to arrays. The vulnerability is present in different forms in all versions, including `0.3.10`. For ints, the 2's complement representation is used. Because the array was declared very large, the bounds checking will pass Negative values will simply be represented as very large numbers. As of time of publication, a fixed version does not exist. There are three potential vulnerability classes: unpredictable behavior, accessing inaccessible elements and denial of service. Class 1: If it is possible to index an array with a negative integer without reverting, this is most likely not anticipated by the developer and such accesses can cause unpredictable behavior for the contract. Class 2: If a contract has an invariant in the form `assert index < x`, the developer will suppose that no elements on indexes `y | y >= x` are accessible. However, by using negative indexes, this can be bypassed. Class 3: If the index is dependent on the state of the contract, this poses a risk of denial of service. If the state of the contract can be manipulated in such way that the index will be forced to be negative, the array access can always revert (because most likely the array won't be declared extremely large). However, all these the scenarios are highly unlikely. Most likely behavior is a revert on the bounds check.

CWE
  • CWE-327 - Use of a Broken or Risky Cryptographic Algorithm
Summary
Vyper is a Pythonic Smart Contract Language for the EVM. There is an error in the stack management when compiling the `IR` for `sha3_64`. Concretely, the `height` variable is miscalculated. The vulnerability can't be triggered without writing the `IR` by hand (that is, it cannot be triggered from regular vyper code). `sha3_64` is used for retrieval in mappings. No flow that would cache the `key` was found so the issue shouldn't be possible to trigger when compiling the compiler-generated `IR`. This issue isn't triggered during normal compilation of vyper code so the impact is low. At the time of publication there is no patch available.

CWE
  • CWE-119 - Improper Restriction of Operations within the Bounds of a Memory Buffer
Summary
Vyper is a Pythonic Smart Contract Language for the Ethereum Virtual Machine. When calls to external contracts are made, we write the input buffer starting at byte 28, and allocate the return buffer to start at byte 0 (overlapping with the input buffer). When checking RETURNDATASIZE for dynamic types, the size is compared only to the minimum allowed size for that type, and not to the returned value's length. As a result, malformed return data can cause the contract to mistake data from the input buffer for returndata. When the called contract returns invalid ABIv2 encoded data, the calling contract can read different invalid data (from the dirty buffer) than the called contract returned.
