CWE
Summary
OpenProject is open-source, web-based project management software. In version 17.5.1 and earlier, an authenticated non-admin project member can request the inplace-edit dialog for a raw custom_field_ project attribute. The dialog path resolves the project custom field by its raw identifier without enforcing the normal admin_only visibility scope and renders the stored custom-field comment in read-only mode. This discloses hidden comment text but does not disclose the custom-field value or permit writes or mutation. This issue is reported as fixed in version 17.6.0.

Summary
OpenProject is open-source, web-based project management software. Prior to 17.6.0, PATCH /api/v3/work_packages/{id} accepted _links.fileLinks and allowed authenticated users with edit_work_packages but without manage_file_links to resolve Storages::FileLink records by raw id, detach or hard-delete existing FileLinks, and re-parent FileLinks from other projects to an attacker-controlled work package, exposing origin filename, origin id, and MIME type metadata. This issue is fixed in 17.6.0.

CWE
  • CWE-639 - Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key
Summary
OpenProject is open-source, web-based project management software. Prior to 17.3.2 and 17.4.0, OpenProject exposes a document update endpoint used to modify existing documents. The target document is loaded with visibility checks and then updated. During update, attacker-controlled attributes are applied to the persisted record before authorization is enforced. As a result, a user without :manage_documents in the source project can move and modify foreign project documents by setting project_id in a single PATCH request. This vulnerability is fixed in 17.3.2 and 17.4.0.

Summary
OpenProject is open-source, web-based project management software. Prior to 17.3.2 and 17.4.0, a Missing Authorization vulnerability exists in OpenProject's CostReportsController. The rename and update actions allow any authenticated user to modify the name, filters, and grouping of any Public cost report in the system without verifying ownership or permission level. An attacker who discovers or guesses a public report's numeric ID can rename or overwrite its filter configuration without any warning to the report's owner. This vulnerability is fixed in 17.3.2 and 17.4.0.

Vulnerability from cvelistv5

CWE
  • CWE-863 - Incorrect Authorization
Summary
OpenProject is open-source, web-based project management software. Prior to 17.3.2 and 17.4.0, the GET /api/v3/shares endpoint returns share details for ALL work packages in a project to any user with the view_shared_work_packages permission. The authorization check operates at the project level only — it does not verify the requesting user can actually view each individual shared work package. This allows a regular project member to discover work package IDs and subjects (including confidential titles), which users have been granted shared access, what role level was assigned (Editor, Commenter, Viewer). This vulnerability is fixed in 17.3.2 and 17.4.0.

CWE
  • CWE-79 - Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting')
Summary
OpenProject is open-source, web-based project management software. Prior to 17.4.0, OpenProject's rich text (markdown) rendering pipeline uses Sanitize::Config::RELAXED[:css] for inline style sanitization. This configuration permits essentially all CSS properties in style attributes on permitted HTML elements (figure, img, table, th, tr, td). This allows any authenticated user with write access to formattable text fields (work package descriptions, comments, project descriptions, news) to inject CSS This vulnerability is fixed in 17.4.0.

CVE-2026-44736 (GCVE-0-2026-44736)
Vulnerability from cvelistv5

Modified

CWE
  • CWE-200 - Exposure of Sensitive Information to an Unauthorized Actor
  • CWE-639 - Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key
  • CWE-836 - Use of Password Hash Instead of Password for Authentication
Summary
OpenProject is open-source, web-based project management software. Prior to 17.4.0, the GET /api/v3/relations endpoint allows any authenticated user to retrieve relations — and the subject (title) of work packages they have no permission to view — by supplying an arbitrary work package ID in the involved, fromId, or toId filter. This bypasses the Relation.visible scope due to a flawed performance optimization in RelationQuery. This vulnerability is fixed in 17.4.0.

CVE-2026-52779 (GCVE-0-2026-52779)
Vulnerability from cvelistv5
Published
2026-06-26 19:02
Modified
2026-06-29 15:18
CWE
  • CWE-639 - Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key
  • CWE-863 - Incorrect Authorization
Summary
OpenProject is open-source, web-based project management software. Prior to 17.3.3 and 17.4.1, a cross-project IDOR / authorization context confusion in the Calendar and Team Planner modules allows a user with management permissions in one project to delete public Calendar or Team Planner Queries from another project where they do not have the corresponding management permissions. Both modules authorize the request against the project identified by :project_id in the URL, but the actual Query object is loaded later by :id from Query.visible(current_user) without verifying that the loaded Query belongs to the authorized project. As a result, an attacker can use permissions from Project A to delete shared/public Calendar or Team Planner views from Project B, causing integrity impact and limited availability impact for users relying on those shared views. This vulnerability is fixed in 17.3.3 and 17.4.1.

This vulnerability is fixed in 17.3.3 and 17.4.1."

CVE-2026-52781 (GCVE-0-2026-52781)
Vulnerability from cvelistv5

Modified

CWE
  • CWE-79 - Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting')
Summary
OpenProject is open-source, web-based project management software. Prior to 17.3.3 and 17.4.1, the HTML sanitizer grants <macro> elements unrestricted data-* attributes via :data wildcard. An attacker injects data-controller="poll-for-changes" into a work package description, causing Stimulus.js to mount a controller that fetches an attacker-uploaded attachment and passes it to renderStreamMessage(). This executes arbitrary Turbo Stream actions — including redirect_to — in every victim's authenticated browser session, redirecting them to an attacker-controlled server. This vulnerability is fixed in 17.3.3 and 17.4.1.

OpenProject is open-source, web-based project management software. Prior to 17.3.3 and 17.4.1, there is an IDOR through /projects/<A>/settings/project_storages/<A_ps_id> via PATCH parameter "storages_project_storage[project_folder_id]" leads to Access to Unauthorized Resources. A project-admin in one project can hijack the managed Nextcloud or OneDrive folder of another project on the same storage by writing the victim project's project_folder_id into the attacker's Storages::ProjectStorage row. The next managed-folder sync overwrites the ACL on the referenced folder with the attacker project's user list. This vulnerability is fixed in 17.3.3 and 17.4.1.

CWE
  • CWE-313 - Cleartext Storage in a File or on Disk
Summary
OpenProject is open-source, web-based project management software. Prior to 17.3.3 and 17.4.1, OpenProject's Storages module writes the OneDrive/SharePoint userless OAuth access_token plaintext to Rails.cache under the deterministic key storage.<id>.httpx_access_token, repopulated continuously by an hourly cron and every userless-OAuth call site (see Write cadence). None of the three allowed cache backends (file_store, memcache, redis) encrypts at rest. An attacker with read access to the cache backend recovers the Azure-AD application-tier bearer with an anonymous get over the memcached binary protocol (or the equivalent against Redis). This vulnerability is fixed in 17.3.3 and 17.4.1.

CWE
  • CWE-367 - Time-of-check Time-of-use (TOCTOU) Race Condition
  • CWE-639 - Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key
Summary
OpenProject is open-source, web-based project management software. Prior to version 17.3.0, a user with `manage_agendas` permission in any project can inject agenda items into meetings belonging to any other project on the instance — even projects they have no access to. No knowledge of the target project, meeting, or victim is required; the attacker can blindly spray items into every meeting on the instance by iterating sequential section IDs. Version 17.3.0 patches the issue.

CVE-2026-33667 (GCVE-0-2026-33667)
Vulnerability from cvelistv5

CWE
  • CWE-307 - Improper Restriction of Excessive Authentication Attempts
Summary
OpenProject is an open-source project management application. In versions prior to 17.3.0, 2FA OTP verification in the confirm_otp action of the two_factor_authentication module has no rate limiting, lockout mechanism, or failed-attempt tracking. The existing brute_force_block_after_failed_logins setting only counts password login failures and does not apply to the 2FA verification stage, and neither the fail_login nor stage_failure methods increment any counter, lock the account, or add any delay. With the default TOTP drift window of ±60 seconds allowing approximately 5 valid codes at any time, an attacker who knows a user's password can brute-force the 6-digit TOTP code at roughly 5-10 attempts per second with an expected completion time of approximately 11 hours. The same vulnerability applies to backup code verification. This effectively allows complete 2FA bypass for any account where the password is known. This issue has been fixed in version 17.3.0.

  • CWE-79 - Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting')
Summary
OpenProject is an open-source, web-based project management software. In versions prior to 16.6.9, 17.0.6, 17.1.3, and 17.2.1, the Repositories module did not properly escape filenames displayed from repositories. This allowed an attacker with push access into the repository to create commits with filenames that included HTML code that was injected in the page without proper sanitation. This allowed a persisted XSS attack against all members of this project that accessed the repositories page to display a changeset where the maliciously crafted file was deleted. Versions 16.6.9, 17.0.6, 17.1.3, and 17.2.1 fix the issue.

Severity ?
CWE
  • CWE-89 - Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in an SQL Command ('SQL Injection')
Summary
OpenProject is an open-source, web-based project management software. Versions prior to 16.6.9, 17.0.6, 17.1.3, and 17.2.1 are vulnerable to an SQL injection attack via a custom field's name. When that custom field was used in a Cost Report, the custom field's name was injected into the SQL query without proper sanitation. This allowed an attacker to execute arbitrary SQL commands during the generation of a Cost Report. As custom fields can only be generated by users with full administrator privileges, the attack surface is somewhat reduced. Together with another bug in the Repositories_module, that used the project identifier without sanitation to generate the checkout path for a git repository in the filesystem, this allowed an attacker to checkout a git repository to an arbitrarily chosen path on the server. If the checkout is done within certain paths within the OpenProject application, upon the next restart of the application, this allows the attacker to inject ruby code into the application. As the project identifier cannot be manually edited to any string containing special characters like dots or slashes, this needs to be changed via the SQL injection described above. Versions 16.6.9, 17.0.6, 17.1.3, and 17.2.1 fix the issue.

Versions 16.6.9, 17.0.6, 17.1.3, and 17.2.1 fix the issue."

CVE-2026-31974 (GCVE-0-2026-31974)
Vulnerability from cvelistv5

CWE
  • CWE-918 - Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF)
Summary
OpenProject is an open-source, web-based project management software. Prior to 17.2.0, OpenProject SMTP test endpoint (POST /admin/settings/mail_notifications) accepts arbitrary host and port values and exhibits measurable differences in response behaviour depending on whether the target IP exists and whether the port is open. An attacker with access can use these timing and error distinctions to map internal hosts and identify which services/ports are reachable. Similarly, you can create webhooks in OpenProject and point them to arbitrary IPs, resulting in the same kind of SSRF issue which allows attackers to scan the internal network. This vulnerability is fixed in 17.2.0.

CWE
  • CWE-863 - Incorrect Authorization
Summary
OpenProject is an open-source, web-based project management software. Prior to 17.2.0, when editing a project budget and planning the labor cost, it was not checked that the user that was planned in the budget is actually a project member. This exposed the user's default rate (if one was set up) to users that should only see that information for project members. Also, the endpoint that handles the pre-calculation for the frontend to display a preview of the costs, while it was being entered, did not properly validate the membership of the user as well. This also allowed to calculate costs with the default rate of non-members. This vulnerability is fixed in 17.2.0.

CWE
  • CWE-79 - Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting')
Summary
OpenProject is an open-source, web-based project management software. Prior to 17.2.0, this vulnerability occurs due to improper validation of OpenProject’s Markdown rendering, specifically in the hyperlink handling. This allows an attacker to inject malicious hyperlink payloads that perform DOM clobbering. DOM clobbering can crash or blank the entire page by overwriting native DOM functions with HTML elements, causing critical JavaScript calls to throw runtime errors during application initialization and halt further execution. This vulnerability is fixed in 17.2.0.
